Don’t Hold Through Earnings

It’s practiced at theinformedtrader.com for a reason – it’s a gamble when it comes to post-earning responses.  A stock may go up even when it misses, or go down even when it beats.  Especially with respect to my never ending jinx and bad luck, why tempt my fate?!!!

Last night my ATVI missed, and this morning my ALL.

  • Activision (ATVI): Q4 EPS of $0.53 beats by $0.02. Revenue of $2.6B (+2% Y/Y) beats by $0.19B. Shares -7.3% AH. (PR, earnings call transcript)
  • Allstate (ALL): Q4 EPS of $0.50 may not be comparable with consensus of $0.88. Revenue of $8.1B (+0.4% Y/Y) beats by $1.8B. Shares -4.6% AH. (PR)

I’m not only a bad trader, but even a worse investor!!   So my emotions and personality work against my trading, but what about earnings — it’s pure gamble and I’m like 90% on the wrong side!!  Mr. Market just doesn’t want to befriend with me.  I really don’t know how to change that.  Feeling defeated.

And some more from recent memory:

Sob.

PS. OK, at least today I realized I had a big winner, albeit it just 100 shares.  I feel a bit better.
